tierfal: (Ed - WHO YOU CALLIN' SO PRETTY)
[personal profile] tierfal
Title: Loud and Clear: Another One of Those Heartbreak Songs
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed (with Al/Win)
Rating: R
Word Count: 60,700 (17,700 in this chapter)
Warnings: please see note below!!
Summary: Sometimes the tall, dark, handsome ones are poisoned underneath.
Author's Note:SWEET BABY JESUS, wow. The next two chapters come with a huge host of warnings: general creepiness that starts out insidiously subtle and segues into an openly abusive relationship; borderline dub-con; and stalking. AWWWWWRIGHT. :| No, seriously – if any of that is likely to be unsettling to you, now that you know what it is, you aren't going to miss anything plot-wise if you wait this out / only read the present-day parts / skip ahead to chapter 3 once it's up. Please, please don't endure any hurt on account of this silly fic, okay? ♥

MORE NOTES! )

Paddington Station on a Saturday morning is significantly more populous than he expected. )

Title: Mistaken
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: R
Word Count: 22,500 (2,600 this part)
Warnings: major spoilers for '03/CoS; language; a bit of violence (unimpressive next to canon); adults behaving irresponsibly (including alcohol use); naughty stuff to come
Summary: It is a telling and terrible reflection on Roy's life that the kidnapping is not the worst thing that's happened this week.
Author's Note: A Roy/Ed Gift Exchange fic for viorar-vel-til-loftarasa! This is set in a post-CoS AU where I hand-waved Ed and Al back from our world again, so that Ed could start getting into trouble in Amestris again.

Roy regrets everything.  Roy regrets the entirety of his existence. )

[Part II]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Difficult to Argue
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 14,300
Warnings: intermittent language; post-BH AU; some dark content/gore (though nothing significantly worse than canon)
Summary: It's a well-deserved shame and a cordially-invited tragedy that anything Roy tries to treasure goes down in flames.
Author's Note: Inspired by Jujubee's amazing art – the feeling that it gave me ran away with this fic, which is why I did such a poor job of highlighting the art itself, oops. >__>' All the same: thank you, Jujubee, and ALL of the artists in this fandom, for sharing your beautiful work with us. Even if we forget to say it sometimes, we love and appreciate everything you do. ♥

Roy’s waiting by the phone and listening to the rain.  Is that pathetic? )

[Part II]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Heartbeat
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 47,200 (7,300 this part)
Warnings: language; post-BH AU; emetophobic parties beware; depictions of anxiety and depression (including dark intrusive thoughts); very much unwanted touches (see the note)
Summary: Ed makes the mistake of waiting on goddamn tenterhooks for something to change – and then, naturally, something does.
Author's Note: This is part of the demi!Ed series, set after Kindling! Also, LONG NOTE:Abandon hope of impartiality ye who enter here: this fic is a particularly poignant example of my habit of writing to myself, about myself, to a certain extent. I'm not sure if I should call it "bad", as far as the habit goes, because it often seems to resonate with people… And so much of the point of writing, of fanfic, of all of fandom for me is to be out here saying I know you think you're fucked up – and maybe you are, but you're a long way yet from broken, and you're definitely not alone.

Elaborating on the warnings above: particularly in the later chapters, there's a lot of material about depression in this fic (including a bit more suicidal ideation and a variety of somewhat disturbing intrusive thoughts); emetophobic parties should proceed with caution; and there's some very non-consensual physical contact. I didn't warn for that in so many words because I feel like it would implicate Roy because of the pairing, but that isn't the case. And that would make a big difference to me as a reader, so I figured it might change things for a lot of you as well!

As far as the song goes, the album came out back when I still had the energy to do the RP blog thing, and something about the tone of this song really captured the essence of demi!Ed for me – the resignation and the sadness and the emptiness and the loneliness all tangled up together in with an old determination.

P.S. Con fever update: I'm going to be at SacAnime on Saturday the 3rd, and then at YaoiCon the 16th through the 18th!

It’s not like it’s ever a surprise when Hawkeye’s right about something, because she’s Hawkeye, but in this particular case— )

[Part 2]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Speechless
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG-13 R
Word Count: 20,000?? (3,900 in this piece)
Warnings: something like a post-BH AU; language; blood and drama at turns and also at once; it wouldn't be a Tierfal fic without some bad innuendo; S O U L M A T E S!!
Prompt: "soulmarks on the wrist/arm that Ed lost" for Roy/Ed Week
Summary: Ed's stupid mark is long, long gone, but it's not like he has time to care.
Author's Note: AS USUAL, I set out to write something quick and punchy and ended up with a 20K crime against fiction and humanity. I'm nearly done, so I will hopefully have and be posting the rest this weekend… -____-'

Ed is not going to rub his arm. )

[Part 2]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Spectra
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 16,200 (4,900 this chapter)
Warnings: language; ALL OF THE SPOILERS for '03/CoS
Summary: A prism with three faces. (Colorblindness/soulmates AU.)
Author's Note: So people were like, "DAMN, where's all the CoS!Roy/Ed?"; and then Mthaytr was like, "DAMN, where's all the Roy/Ed with the sexy pining?", and then they were like, "Also, remember that incredible soulmate-colorblindness AU that Panda made?", and somehow I forgot how much CoS eats my brain.

Anyway, this thing basically wrote itself over the course of a week and a half – which was something of a miracle, really, because I've been so burned out on pretty much everything that it was an incredible relief to feel like writing was fun and easy and natural again.

tl;dr I wrote this over a month ago; y'all know the drill with my life these days. But now that I finally found the energy to reread it, I'm actually kinda pleased with how it turned out, so that's… something. :'D

At least Roy’s alive. )

[Part II]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Choose Your Own Rainbow
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: pre-Roy/Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 15,600
Warnings: language; absurdity; I did, like, two Google searches on some of this stuff and then left it at that because Roy is kind of a poser anyway?; this needs a lot more editing but ain't nobody got time for that; modern AU
Summary: Edward Elric has the most singular talent of anyone alive for taking Roy's zen, thrashing it thoroughly, and then hurling it into a Dumpster. …metaphysically speaking, anyway.
Author's Note: A now extremely late birthday present for Obersten!!!!! ♥ Based on his ridiculously A+ Downward Dogs AU – the premise is founded in some intel I acquired from Secret Insider Sources, and then I made up everything else. :'D tl;dr if you like a detail/aspect of this, it's probably Berg's; if you're like "wtf is this shit," it's probably one of my additions. X'D (Or it's one of the things I half-assedly pretended to research! I am a pro at this writing shit.)

Today Roy is going to tell Ed how stupid it is to hate on chakra beads. )

[Part 2]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: But Not Buried This Time
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed (though mostly just Ed vs. snow)
Rating: R
Word Count: 95,000 (15,794 in this bit)
Warnings: language; gore; violence; snow; suffering; AU from end of Brotherhood; eventual explicit smut
Summary: Once Ed decides that he is categorically not going to rot on the Drachman tundra, dragging his ass out of the jaws of death is actually pretty easy.  ...except when it's not.  At all.  Which is most of the time.
Author's Note: This fic started because inkdropfox sent me a cosplay accessory. Complete with a PILE OF ANGST. Now, Sam and I have the kind of relationship where we can do that kind of thing to each other without warning (also, this kind of thing), but a lot of people were understandably SOMEWHAT SCANDALIZED. :'D One of them was mthaytr, who is my other half. So we were talking about it one time, and they were like "THIS IS NOT OKAY?", and I was like, "I've been thinking about writing a fix-it; I'll throw a quick one together for you." Seven and a half months and seventy-some-thousand words later… here we are. >___> This fic also owes a lot – including the title – to a little ditty by Florence + the Machine that reminded me of Ed, for reasons which are painfully obvious; and then I jacked it up on the obvious Woodkid every time it got stuck. Writing this whole thing involved a lot of dragging myself along one word at a time, so… method fic. Sort… of. :'D It's likely to be dull in places, which is either bad writing or the whole point or both. Also: I'm not quite done with the more-epiloguey-than-ending shit, but I'm getting there. I'm hoping to update pretty consistently, but next weekend is going to be an RL shitshow, so I can't make too many promises there.

As light seeps in under Ed’s eyelids and pries them upward a crack, the first thing he realizes is that there’s too much blood in his mouth for him to hiss out every last expletive he’s ever learned. )

[Chapter 1, Part 2/2]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Day Seven
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 3,109
Warnings: depiction of depression; modern!AU; language; bleak worldview ahoy
Summary: (Follow-up to A Wicked Game.) A thousand little unseen fishhooks underneath his skin, tied to a thousand little weights – and sometimes they're just too heavy to keep dragging.
Author's Note: Q. Tierfal, why do you write sequels to your own shit, like, four years later? A. Because I always sort of felt like I had shortchanged this one, and also Mthaytr and I were talking about it, and… REASONS?? Shout-out to all of you, because you're doing your best, and it is fucking good enough, no matter what your brain might say sometimes.

The worst part is that he gets a long string of good days first—days where he feels full, feels energetic and alive. )

[The Waterfall]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Summer
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Characters/Pairing: Ed, Hawkeye, Roy (and kinda a tiny bit Roy/Ed)
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 11,830
Warnings: language, lots of Unhappy, post-Brotherhood AU with spoilers
Summary: People mean well, mostly, but he's alone in this – right?
Author's Note: ………so! Um. This is a sequel to Void – you can read it on its own if you want, but that probably contextualizes it better! And all of the warnings/tags/please-tell-me-if-I'm-out-of-line stuff from that fic apply here as well. More of this segment later this week if I can get myself not to hate it; and then there will be at least one additional part… someday. I am bad at deadlines. I am bad at a lot of things.

Also: I am sincerely sorry I didn't reply to all of the comments and/or messages about the prior fic – I hope everyone who left one knows they are welcome to drop me a line anytime, anywhere; I'm really crap at responding when I get busy or overwhelmed (which is all the time), but I always, always care, and I am always happy to listen if you need somebody to talk to. ♥

Please take note that this and the remaining stories in this 'verse are all set a long while after the previous one – three or four years post-Brotherhood, probably?  It's an AU as far as the Brotherhood ending is concerned, in more ways than just the basic premise: I also couldn't bear to take alchemy away from Ed when he was already feeling like this. Although I did leave him still stuck with the automail arm, because I'm an asshole.

One last thing: when I'm writing demi!Ed in any capacity (this was really pronounced on le blog too if you follow that), there's this sort of interim period in my head where he really sort of starts to destroy himself while no one is watching, and it changes his character pretty substantially. So he might seem kind of OOC, I guess?, but it's the result of the extrapolations I made behind the scenes. Or, more accurately, it's a largely unintentional side effect of those extrapolations, because he just throws this shit at me, and I write it down and shake my head a lot. >____> Anyway, if he seems a little less… Ed, you're not alone in noticing that. And everyone and their mom is going to talk about it over the course of the next several thousand words. Please don't leave me nasty comments about him being out of character and me ruining the franchise, is what I'm saying, because I am legitimately too emotionally fragile for that shit right now what who said that

…it also occurs to me that I should probably warn for a touch of vulgarity in the early dialogue in this part. And some very dark Ed's-internal-monologue thoughts. Stay safe, frands. ♥

Ed has hated summer for as long as he can… Well.  No.  He’s hated summer since the automail. )

[PART II]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Dichlorodiethyl Sulfide
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Characters: Roy & Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1,160
Warnings: language, violence/gore, all the usual for Mud Grave fics
Summary: What are you supposed to do when the afterimage on the back of your eyelids keeps trying to stitch up all your wounds?
Author's Note: More Mud Grave-inspired fic. I am ruined. Mourn me. (Follows right on after Phantasmagoria and Epistolary.)

Ed can see it in his eyes that Roy—no—Mustang, Mustang—Ed can tell that Mustang has something to say. )

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Epistolary
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG
Word Count: 2,330
Warnings: brief language; super-ultra-mega-sad AU 'verse; sorry about your life, Roy; did I edit this? haha. ha. guess.
Summary: If Ed won't listen, Roy will just have to catch him unawares and make him read. It's for his own good. Isn't it?
Author's Note: More fic inspired by Mud Grave! *cries a lot* This one goes after Phantasmagoria, and then there will be more later, because I am hopeless. X'D

None of the little tricks or longer stratagems are working: for the life of him, he can’t get Ed to look him in the eyes. )

[Part 3: Dichlorodiethyl Sulfide]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Phantasmagoria
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Characters: Roy & Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 880
Warnings: is general trauma a warning?; language; darkfic; spoilers for/AU from '03/CoS
Summary: The part of Ed that came back isn't quite the same.
Author's Note: Berg makes comics that ruin my life in the best possible way. Like this one (gore tw), from the utterly life-wrecking Mud Grave universe, which is what this is about. XD

There’s something wrong with Ed. )

[Part 2: Epistolary]

FMA -- Void

Mar. 8th, 2015 08:45 pm
[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Void
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: proto-Roy/Ed-kinda
Rating: PG
Word Count: 3,830
Warnings: language (i.e. Ed), Havoc is a dumbass
Prompt: demisexual Ed
Summary: Scientifically, he knows exactly what's missing, but for once he can't fix it by force of will.
Author's Note: I did my best to write this both accurately and kindly, and I don't know if I succeeded. I hope it's okay. ♥ …I also wrote it all in one go instead of cleaning the apartment, so… please be on typo watch. >__>''

Ed is not hiding.  He’s… just… keeping under the radar a little bit, because Mustang looked like he was gonna blow a fucking fuse this morning, and Ed is positive that the bastard somehow has it written in his will that if he dies, it’s Ed’s fault, and there’ll be a court-martial involved, and Ed really doesn’t have time for that shit. )

[SEQUEL: SUMMER]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Tell Me That We'll Always Be Together
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Miles/Alfons, Roy/Al, ???? Ed/Lan Fan ????
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 14,175
Warnings: language; more language; Al being seriously questionable and slightly illegal; kicking Alfons while he's down/angstorms with a chance of absolute destruction; modern!AU
Summary: In which the best thing that has ever happened to Alfons goes horribly, horribly wrong.
Author's Note: This is based on two sorta-separate headcanons Phindus mentioned almost a year ago – I instantly fell in love with both but just never quite got to writing them, 'cause I'm lame. So now I've combined them, but the thing is that Phin told me it all ended okay but at the time didn't specify how, so I had to improvise. Which never goes well. :| tl;dr, I just… miss this 'verse, and everything it meant, and everything we built, and I got so emotional about it that this fic got really emotional, too. Also I listened to the song you'll get to in about 10,000 words on repeat at lunch for three days straight, which… wow, Tierfal. Wow. Anyway, this one's set soon after The Christmas One – Alfons still has a cast on, and there's a month left until Al is legal. OH, THE HUMANITY. Extra special thank you to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] powdered_opium for helping me with the end! Ilu, sweetie. ♥

If laptops weren’t so damned expensive that they might as well be made of gold and diamonds with unicorn-hoof plating, Alfons would have thrown his at Al’s head about five minutes ago. )
[Part II]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Between Peril and Home
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 7,740
Warnings: language; AU from end of Brotherhood (so no real spoilers?); some heavy stuff; quite a lot of intense hurt/comfort fluff set against the heaviness; shoddy editing ahoy!
Summary: Ed's mission goes sour, and Roy is left trying to hold them both together.
Author's Note: Another felt-compelled-to-finish-something fic, although it went awry in that regard when it just kept going. O_o In any case, it's sort of the convergence of an eternally-unresolved Edblog subplot (wow, I suck); a bit in the latter half of [livejournal.com profile] inugrlrayn's really lovely If I Should Die where I just jacked an idea to use as a premise (wow, I suck); and having Imagine Dragons sap in the back of my head. It also owes to Umeko, because of this gorgeousness; and, immensely, to Pax, who suggested taking a break from all the other fics I was stuck on, and who draws stuff like this, which is really just too beautiful to be fair. The whole thing was meant to be a counterpart to the last one, only then it got grossly out of hand and turned into… whatever the hell this is. :| tl;dr: established relationship post-Brotherhood AU where Ed keeps alchemy and has ended up under someone else's command.

He can’t sleep worth a damn anymore in an empty house. )

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Systole
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 13,000
Warnings: language, major spoilers for '03/CoS, Transparent Fix-It Syndrome, blood!kink galore, shoddy editing
Summary: Six years on, Roy's whole heart gets shaken back to rights.
Author's Note: …this was supposed to be short. And good! Short and good. It is neither of those things. But it was inspired a long while back by a thing that the too-lovely Pax drew, although it… barely… touches… on the wonderful art. So in addition to being bad at writing fic, I'm bad at being inspired. :'| Despite its general mediocrity, however, it is for Pax, with love and CoS feels; and also for Panda, with love and blood!kink. ♥♥♥♥ Hope it makes you smile, guys! ♥

Roy doesn’t remember much of the in-between times. )

[PART II]

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: The Deep Winter
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1,755
Warnings: language; canon-consistent violence; major spoilers for '03/CoS
Prompt: Pax's fault ♥
Summary: Hibernation's hard to shake.
Author's Note: If you just want to simmer in the sad, stop after the first part; if you want the full effect of the transparent fixer, keep reading after the break. I hope it's not too confusing, but I hate exposition, so it's just sort of a hand-wavey AU… as usual.

The deep winter is the hardest. )

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: To Make the Sun Shine
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: alt!Roy/Ed
Rating: R
Word Count: 18,044 (9,650 in this portion)
Warnings: language; explicit sexual activity; this is why I don't write historical fiction; friends don't let friends do dramatic irony; major spoilers for '03/CoS
Summary: Light never lasts in London, does it? He, of all people, ought to know better than to believe in something good.
Author's Note: Writing the same fic I always write, but backwards, makes it super-creative, right? Almost as creative as the liberties I took by being absolutely shit at research, ahahaha.

He’s sitting in the window of his cafe—not his by ownership, of course; his by habit alone—when he looks up from the rippling surface of his tea and… )

PART II

[identity profile] tierfal.livejournal.com
Title: Bloodlines
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Characters: Team Mustang, Al
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1,009
Warnings: language, major spoilers for '03/CoS
Summary: It's more than the coat that they've got in common.
Author's Note: Speedfic which doesn't come close to measuring up to phindus's heartbreaking sketch, and which sort of accidentally turned into a Frozen Flame prequel. O__o

Al—tiny, warm, breathing, blinking, definitively-not-steely Al—smiles and flips another page of the Worst Handwriting in the Office winner for three years running. )
